◇ THE LONG GAME

I've trained most evenings for thirteen years now. The belt is less a record of talent than a record of showing up, on the good days and the ones I'd rather have skipped. What actually matters isn't any single session, it's what holds when I'm tired, injured, or getting handled: whether I stay level, keep working, and don't go looking for a shortcut. That part hasn't changed much between white belt and brown.

Thirteen years in, I'm still very much a student of it. There's always something a coach can see that I can't.

WEAVE → CIRCUIT · THE SITE'S OWN MATERIAL

What the mat teaches.

01

Pressure.

Applied slowly and honestly, it beats strength and it beats speed. On the mat and in an inspection.

02

Patience.

The sweep works when they commit, not when you're impatient. Same with escalations.

03

Leverage.

Position multiplies force. A small person with the right grips wins; a small function with the right systems does too.

04

The tap.

Tap early, log the lesson, roll again. Ego is the only injury you choose.

◇ COACHING · MATS OPEN

Train with me.

I've started coaching. Privates and small groups in Singapore, mostly people who are newer to the sport and want structure, and people prepping for competition. I'm direct about what's working and what isn't.

If you run a gym and need someone to take a class or cover one, that conversation is open too.
